If you have not been to Koh Samui Island in Thailand, I suggest you plan a trip there at some point in your life. I have been to Koh Samui multiple times while growing up in Thailand, I would like to share my two most memorable trips with you.
It is a tradition for new graduates of International School Bangkok to go to Koh Samui for the class’s graduation trip each year. The class of 2010 planned a trip there as well. My group of friend decided to rent the most beautiful villas in Koh Samui at Samujana Villa 6. Here is a beautiful front view of the villa courtesy of http://www.gosamuivilla.com
The second picture is the view from our villa that I photographed… I truly enjoyed waking up to this view every morning. What a luxury!! The Samujana villa has 5 bedrooms all with a drop dead gorgeous view and it is located close to Samui Football Golf, Choeng Mun Beach. And they have free wifi everywhere in the villa. For a high school graduation trip, it was far beyond our expectations. I definitely need to go rent the villa again sometime!
My first year of college, one of my best friends and I decided to take a spontaneous trip back tot Samui, but this time we decided to go check out the Fullmoon Party on Koh Phangan Island. Each month, on the full moon night, there is a giant party filled with over 30,000 people all around the world on the strip of a crescent shaped island celebrating the beauty of full moon and sunset/ sunrise. There are numerous booths on the beach with different types of drinks, food, and glow in the light neon accessories and paints. People cover themselves in glow in the dark neon paints with tribal looking drawings….definitely reminds me of a tribal gathering under full moon haha. Just imagine fire jump ropers, jungle gyms that leads to a giant slide and different DJs playing all genre all happening on a trip of an island! I had a blast at the Full moon party.
Besides the full moon party, we got to spend time on Samui mainly on the beach. While getting drinks at the bars on the beach there are venders selling sky lanterns that bring you good luck when releasing it in the sky (commonly seen at Asian weddings). My friend and I wrote out our wishes on the lantern mainly wishing our success in starting our college lives and lit the lanterns together. It was absolutely beautiful!
The main form of transportation was Songtaew basically a truck with the back converted into a share ride seating area. I personally prefer riding Songtaew than local taxis. Songtaew is cheaper and you get to feel the breeze ( it especially feels good after the beach!) and it is a way to meet people (tourists/ full moon party goer) on the island!
The water and the warm sands at Chaweng beach was so peaceful. I was very surprise to see the water very clear, I remember seeing fish through the crystal clear water. We spoiled ourselves with thai massages on the beach, and quench our thirst with juicy mango smoothies every day. There was nothing to complain about in life while we were in Koh Samui. I hope you are fully convinced now to plan a trip to Koh Samui and experience the Full Moon Party yourself!
